Today’s true victory is not Obama’s but belongs instead to the tireless efforts of GLBT advocates and allies who have worked a long time to make the President get off the damn fence. For them, these are words he should have said when he was first elected.
But the victory is not complete. In the same sentence, he affirms that this is an issue that each state should decide on. And that’s the kind of stance that left us with North Carolina yesterday.
For Obama’s words to mean anything today, he needs to get behind a FEDERAL marriage equality amendment. Otherwise, its just words.
